EDCI Blog Post #1

Reflection 1

There can be infinite uses of the computer and of new age technology, but if teacher’s themselves are not able to bring it into the classroom and make it work, then it fails.

— Nancy Kassebaum.

Welcome!

This is my first time blogging! My blog knowledge doesn’t go far beyond reading vacation review blogs. I am excited to familiarize myself with it more!

I graduated from Bowling Green State University with my BS in Business Administration with a specialization in Human Resource Management and Training and Development. I am now pursuing my teaching license from Ashland University for grades K-3.

This class has been a great learning experience so far! I have learned about many different tools and their uses that I’ll be able to integrate into my classroom. These include Wiki pages, Web 2.0 tools, Smart Board uses, and now blogging. Blogs can be used by educators in a few different ways, such as posting lessons/resources/homework, keeping parents up-to-date, and sharing ideas with other teachers. There are hundreds of useful educational blogs that can positively impact my classroom. The “Why Your Students Should Blog” article introduced me to the benefits of having students blog. These benefits include exercising student creativity, promoting writing regularly, self expression, boosting confidence, and improving communication skills. Technology is now everywhere in education, and it’s important as teachers to keep up with what’s changing. Teachers should constantly be learning and growing, and keeping up with technology and sharing it in their classroom helps students learn meaningfully and in a fun way!

EDCI Final Post!

Final Thoughts

At the beginning of the semester, I was not exactly sure what kind of class this was going to be or what I was even going to gain from it. I had not worked with most of these different technologies before, so I really learned a lot this semester.  There have been some intimidating/challenging assignments, such as the desktop movie, hypermedia assignment, and webquest, but I have really enjoyed learning about them. Dr. Kormos explains the assignments and paces the class very well, so personally I never felt overwhelmed with anything.

I have learned numerous valuable skills in this class. I think part of being an effective teacher is being able to adapt to different learning technologies and be able to incorporate them into teaching. There are so many different methods to teach students in a fun, interactive, and engaging way. I will definitely be taking what I learned in this class to my future classroom!

“In order to learn, you’ve got to have an open mind.” -Rubyanne

To be honest, I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to do it. Coming into this class, I knew that technology in education is highly important, but I didn’t know if I would be able to learn all of these tools and concepts. After actually completing these assignments, I feel like I will be able to keep up with all of the changes technology brings.

Over the last few weeks, I have learned about so many different technology tools to use in the classroom! I honestly did not think I could use technology in my lesson plans every day, but I have learned of different ways to incorporate it. These technology tools can be used for a variety of subjects, in a variety of ways, and I think will benefit each student.

Since my last post, I have actually learned how to create these tools. Not only have I learned about their benefits, but I’m now knowledgeable on how to incorporate them into the classroom. I have learned how to create an interactive poster to integrate into lessons, use Google Sheets for grading purposes, and use Google Forms, Socrative, and Kahoot! for assessments.

This class has introduced me to all of these terrific teacher tools and I’m pretty excited about it. I’m looking forward to seeing what comes next. I can’t wait to use these in my classroom!
